I am Mario Apitz, a passionate technology lover and a creative and inspirational mind with a business focus.

I truly believe, that the constantly increasing amount of generated data and its storage, as well as the new possibilities ofartificial intelligence, will fundamentally change our society in the upcoming years: new business models and opportunities, but also new challenges will appear.
I want to be actively involved in shaping these changes, making modern technologies available to businesses and the general public, and building and expanding teams of specialists, as well as motivating and inspiring them tobe part of this change.

During the last ten years, I had the chance to build an outstanding and unique Cloud & Big Data company, The unbelievable Machine Company. As part of *um‘s founding team, I am in fact a digital pioneer. Over time, I held different management positions within this company and led and developed some of Europe’s most extraordinary talents in the fields of Cloud and Big Data. Together, we guided and supported >100 well known German brands and companies into their individual transformation.

I was Information Security Officer (ISM) and led the implementation of the ISO27001 and PCI DSS Level 1 information security management processes and its certification within *um.
Furthermore – in the role of Director Operations – I created the Cloud Services department, being a proud leader of 5 operations teams consisting of 65 exceptional experts in Berlin, Frankfurt & Vienna. In 2013 we already introduced revolutionary bimodal operational concepts for critical and highly scalable IT platforms. This made the company a key player for the German managed services B2B market, especially for Hybrid Cloud scenarios and Big Data platforms.

Afterwards, I took over the companies Sales & Marketing department as Director Sales & Marketing. After rebuilding the organizational structure and team, the highly motivated pitch team was able to win the largest deal in *um’s history, a globally distributed, high-sophisticated data analytics platform for one of Germany’s top DAX30 brands.

As a technology company, partnerships to technology vendors are essential building the best possible custom-tailored client solutions. I created a new  strategic partner management to drive business development with companies like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, Google, DellEMC and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, as well as with the major Hadoop distributions Hortonworks, Cloudera & MapR.

Due to my experience as a former  IT System Architect, I have a wealth of hands-on expertise in planning, scaling and running Cloud applications and Big Data infrastructures in scalable, secure and reliable environments.
That is why key customers rely on me and see me as trusted senior advisor.

In the past, I studied the laws and hold a degree in computer engineering from the University of Applied Sciences Berlin. Afterwards, I worked for the well-known agency Pixelpark AG in various technical and management roles, among these System Architect and IT Manager.

While I am not pledged to technology or business topics, I love to play the Ukulele or ride my motorcycle. Furthermore, I am interested in Whisky and the “non-technological” time of the middle-ages.
